ITALY'S AMALFI COAST WILL GET A NEW AIRPORT Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport will “open” in July, 45 kilometers (28 miles) southeast of the city of Amalfi and 21 kilometers (13 miles) from the city of Salerno, the gateway to the famous coast. Technically it’s a reopening rather than a new airport. July 11 will see the start of its new life with the arrival of commercial flights. That's all set to change next summer when the first planes will take off and arrive at the newly revamped Pontecagnano (Salerno) Airport. They include the extension of the Salerno metro to the airport, with 9km of new metro that will flank the Salerno Battipaglia railway line with 5 new stops.
