PROCIDA PALETTE: HERCULANEUM BLUE, NICOSIA AND EMERALD GREENS. “I often paint in the forgotten lemon grove in the walled garden surrounding the Villa Eldorado. Large round Procida lemons, called Limoni Pane or bread-lemons for their thick rind.” Typically awakened by seagulls, her painting sessions often begin at 5:30 a.m., with the view of Mount Vesuvius to the east. “In painting these places with my easel standing next to the cactus on a cliff overlooking the sea.” Lucy MacGillis captures the soul of Umbria and Procida in new works | The Berkshire Eagle

THIS IS ITALY WITH SOUL If you look at images promoting the Campania region in southern Italy, alongside gratuitous pizza pics, longing shots of iconic footballer Diego Maradona and photos of vespas careering through narrow streets, you’ll usually see a picturesque seaside village resplendent in pastel shades. A little research later – it is my job after all – and I had my answer. This was Procida, a short ferry ride from Naples and it seemed like a perfect accompaniment to my next visit to the city. SWEEPING OCEAN VISTAS ALONG THE WAY Procida owes its unique geography to a series of volcanic eruptions eons ago that have left it with a largely-rugged, hilly terrain: in other words, it's paradise for hikers. A good place to start your trek is Lingua, a sand-and-pebble beach adjacent to the main town. It is highly sought after for its crystal-clear waters, the lush vegetation that surrounds it, and the port views. Move Over Amalfi! HERE'S A QUICK PEEK AT THE ISLE OF PROCIDA Our theme for 2024 guidebooks is finding less-crowded alternatives to over-touristed destinations, we want to find an island other than romantic (but congested and pricey) Capri for our travelers. The obvious contenders are Ischia and Procida, the sister islands. Procida is the rustic little sibling, with fewer crowds and no iconic sights…just a couple of pastel fishing harbors. THE TINY ISLAND IS BURSTING WITH CULTURE AND RESTAURANTS Is just under two square miles in size. Slow island living can be enjoyed at  Marina Corricella, Procida’s oldest fishing village, which can only be reached by foot or by boat. It is full of restaurants and bars. La Medusa, which has been around since 1954, is a beautiful spot to stop for lunch, while Bar Roma offers top-notch espresso and a traditional puff pastry filled with lemon custard. SERVING SOME OF THE FRESHEST CATCHES YOU'LL EVER HAVE! Procida has always been full of trattorias serving some of the freshest catches you'll ever have. Friggitorie, the Italian equivalent to an English chippy, are a staple of the Neapolitan culinary landscape. Assafà has taken this tradition and added modern flair: their battered fried anchovies and their fresh, raw fish options are always stellar. Note that Assafà is takeaway only; so take your cone of fried fish with mayonnaise and lemon over to the fountain in the piazza, or order a glass of wine to pair with your meal. A 'GOOD MEMORY' DISH FOR PROCIDA The project has combined tradition, design and the excellent food and wine of the area with the skilful manufacturing mastery of the rare high school "Giovanni Caselli", heir to the Real Fabbrica della Capodimonte porcelain. 'A dish for Procida'  combines contemporary design and our tradition, in particular the decoration of the miniatures: in the center there is in fact a miniature of the plate which recalls the Neapolitan landscape paintings of the 2022th century. HEADING TO CASALE VASCELLO This centuries-old complex has a charm of its own, which you access through two narrow alleyways. These were constructed as a defense system to thwart possible attacks from invaders. Once on the Casale Vascello, you won’t help but treat your eyes to the epic scenes created by the colorful houses. Their balconies, staircases, and arches give it a unique charm comparable to what you are welcomed with at the Procida’s Marina Grande. Unbelievably, people still live inside these buildings. Italy the Way You Want It – On the Island of Procida | Via Travelers

PROCIDA WILL NEVER BECOME A 'DISNEYLAND' DESTINATION  According to Agostino Riitano: “We want to generate a ‘return tourism’. The relationship with Procida does not end with the journey, but stimulates long-term relationships." With a population of around 11,000, there’s a genuine sense of community here. Procida is a living, working place; it’s a beautiful island, no doubt, but the real charm lies in its authenticity. THE PROCIDA LEAVES ARE UNLIKE ANY OTHERS The creators of Foglioli decided to make a drink inspired by limoncello using only the leaves of the local lemons. The results are more herbaceous than a limoncello, with less sugar, and a puckering bitterness on the palette. <<That breaking open a lemon leaf and smelling the “truly amazing” aroma is exactly how he got the idea for Foglioli.>> The Best Things To Eat and Do on Procida, One of Italy’s Most Charming Islands | Matador Network

FOR THE PROCIDA MAP ASK TONY PONTICIELLO This is not the "classic tourist's map" with generic information, its peculiarity is the way distances between red circles (reference points) are measured: "steps" "paces". And the indication of height above sea level (triangles), let you know what kind of slope (ascent/descent) you have to face. If you want to know how long each walk takes, divide the number of paces by 100 and you get the time in minutes. Procida - The Island of Steps | apassi.it

PROCIDA SUD FESTIVAL, WITH SUSTAINABILITY IN MIND A street market and a food festival promoting products from the South of Italy, and one of the first events from the Capital of Culture calendar. The more the south can supply its own food, the less impact production and transport will have on the climate. Unlike other parts of the Campania region, Procida doesn’t depend on tourism for its cash. The maritime industries of fishing and sailing still dominate the local economy.
