THE ONLY CITY OUTSIDE OF ROME TO HAVE TWO AMPHITHEATERS The Flavian Amphitheater in the ancient town of Puteoli (now Pozzuoli) - with 40,000 spectators in its heyday - stands as the third-largest Roman amphitheater in Italy and its underground areas are possibly the best preserved. Though nothing remains of the minor Augustan age arena, the larger Flavian amphitheater is mostly intact. Flavian Amphitheater of Pozzuoli | Atlas Obscura
