"ARCHAEOLOGY OF MOVEMENT. RITES AND PRACTICES IN POMPEII" Archaeology is to give an account of the daily activities of the people of the past. This is the case for the Porta Nocera necropolis, in Pompeii, where foot paths have been preserved under a 4-meter layer of ash and pumice, exactly as they were at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79. Extensive excavations at this site enabled us to recreate entire sequences of movements associated with rituals. The archaeology of movement reveals 'the daily activities of people' in ancient Pompeii | Le Monde
