ITALY SEEKS UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE STATUS FOR APPIAN WAY The bid is part of Italy’s drive to promote slow and sustainable tourism. The Via Appia was built by Emperor Trajan to extend an existing Roman road that ran from Benevento to Brindisi. An ambitious project to restore the hidden parts and reconnect the historical road.
