MANN'S UNMISSABLE EXHIBITION "ALEXANDER THE GREAT AND THE EAST" The “Mosaic of all records” has been capturing, with its magnetic beauty, the attention of visitors. The restoration of the mosaic is going to be a complex one: conservation, positioning, weight (approximately seven tons). The five-metre Alexander Mosaic, composed of 2mn tiny tesserae placed to represent astonishingly naturalistic figures and vivid emotion, is a glory of Naples’ National Archaeological Museum, but damaged and fragile. After years out of sight, its restoration, repairing cracks and detached tiles, smoothing bulges and hollows, allowing colour to shine, is unveiled on May 29. Alexander the Great's cultural legacy richly explored in Naples exhibition | Financial Times
