THE LONG HISTORY OF THE SANCTUARY A religious complex located on the limestone massif of Montevergine, among the Appennine mountains, in Irpinia. The Montevergine Sanctuary, soon became the most important religious center in the area, with many other monasteries rising under its dependency.
