ISCHIA, A COSMOPOLITAN COMMUNITY OF THE 8th CENTURY BC Thanks to the isotopic analysis of bones and teeth of over 50 individuals found buried there, researchers were able to confirm that in the eighth century BC the island's community was made up of Greek, Phoenician and Italic immigrants (including the Etruscans). The data also show that female mobility was a structural element in the construction of the community of Pithekoussai, suggesting that women were deeply involved in the cultural and commercial activities that defined life on Ischia in the first millennium BC.
