"AMAIE 'NA NENNE PE' TRIDECE MISE" In 1955 Hans Werner Henze moved from Ischia to Naples where he could fully enjoy Greek, Arab, Spanish cultural influences, but also German and Italian, so dear to him and still present in the Neapolitan microcosm. Fünf Neapolitanische Lieder (1956) is a work for baritone and chamber orchestra, setting anonymous 17th-century Neapolitan poems, dedicated to Ingeborg Bachmann. Henze described the city as full of "mysterious noises" and a continuous "crossover of all possible tonalities, always tending to modulate into song".
