18TH-CENTURY IRPINIA COMPLEX SEEKING UNESCO CANDIDACY: A SITE OF SPIRITUAL, ARCHITECTURAL, AND HISTORICAL VALUE The Palazzo di Loreto in Mercogliano, Italy (a Benedictine abbey complex), has been nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A cooperative protocol was officially signed in May 2026 by the municipality, the Abbey of Montevergine, and the Rotary Club Avellino to support the candidacy.
